On September 10, we rolled out a targeted update to PowerBiz performance reports: hourly traffic projection for the ongoing period. When viewing today's data, charts calculate expected volume alongside a statistical error bound.

In e-commerce operations and paid media monitoring, raw partial figures during an incomplete hour lead to misleading assumptions. A sudden drop in the current hour's bar often only means ten minutes elapsed so far. The projection replaces this guesswork with an empirical estimate.

How the projection calculation works

The algorithm uses your store's recent traffic and conversion baseline to establish standard hourly distribution patterns. Two primary elements govern the projected bar:

  • Recent hourly baseline: Expected distribution for each time slot weighs recent baseline volume matching the specific weekday and time.
  • Proportional error bounds: The confidence bound spread (shown as the vertical blue error whisker) scales proportionally with minutes remaining in the hour.

Statistical behavior

During the first minutes of the hour, with fewer sample events recorded, the error whisker is wider. As minutes pass and measured sessions accumulate, the bound narrows and converges onto the final consolidated volume.

Practical use cases for campaign tracking

This forecasting helps operators track ongoing marketing initiatives throughout the day:

  • Disparos de e-mail e mensageria: Immediately spot whether an email broadcast sent at 10:00 AM generates incoming visits surpassing the upper error bound.
  • Ajustes de orçamento em mídia paga: Verify whether an ad spend boost delivers expected visitor expansion within the opening thirty minutes.
  • Detecção precoce de anomalias: If recorded sessions fall below the lowest confidence floor for two consecutive hours, teams detect technical tracking issues before daily reports close.

This feature is automatically enabled across all PowerBiz accounts for hourly-granularity charts filtered to today.
